Unexpected Results

Well as it turns out I have not gotten to the coloring in of my pen sketches!  I did however make more.  I also tried a new technique of sorts.  I played with varying the widths of the lines I use.  I still have more playing to do with that but I do think it has already started to help make the simple line drawings more interesting.  I also began to realize just how much my drawings have changed over the last 6 months!  I think next weeks Monday blog post will be all about showing and embracing this creative change.  As artists I think we strive for people to be able to recognize our work visually but at such an early stage in my drawing and painting career I can’t afford to box myself in like that.  So I keep exploring and trying new things and maybe someday “MY” style will emerge from all of that experimentation.

So as I was drawing the last three of these four I realized my brain had switched from trying to distract itself to working on The Family Strange again.  I had created three drawings for future shows without really thinking about it until the drawing was near finished and I realized “Ha that would make a great water element girl for one of Maya’s family tree members” etc.  With that train of thought renewed, I busted out the last two sketches for Eli’s family tree last night.  Now I can start painting for the Eli Strange family tree show which will debut in April!  So I guess this little adventure into procrastination really payed off!  Both in a successful experiment and in getting me back on track with my work!  What kind of breaks do you take from work to get you back on track?
